CUSTOM DESIGNS AND OPTICAL TURNSTILES

CUSTOM DESIGNS: Due to the increased awareness of security and access control, many institutions which never considered using turnstiles now find themselves forced to implement an access control system with turnstiles. Many of these facilities are corporate headquarters, prestigious building lobbies, libraries, museums and government institutions, where appearance is almost as important as function. AVL specializes in custom turnstile and handicap gate designs which help to ease the transition and maintain the integrity and attractiveness of the facility while providing the needed security function. Our ability to supply custom engineered turnstiles include bull nose cabinets, marble-cladding, brass or bronze enclosures, mirror polished metalwork and other finishes to match the existing environment. We take great pride in, and enjoy, working with architectural firms and consultants in order to provide the most attractive, and effective equipment possible.

OPTICAL TURNSTILES: Although custom designs are suitable for most applications, some very highly visible locations require the discreet security provided by optical turnstiles. AVL manufactures a large selection of optical turnstiles ranging from motorized barriers that are activated by sensors to barrier-free turnstiles controlled by programmable logic controllers and optical beams. Barrier-free optical turnstiles are not intended for all types of security applications, but if an unobtrusive system is required for a supervised area, these turnstiles can easily integrate into any surroundings. Materials and finish vary according to individual requirements. Visual and audio alarms are available to indicate unauthorized passage. Although not considered high security, optical turnstiles are a viable solution to certain access control situations.

Photo (above left) shows mirror finished stainless steel in a tandem configuration with a matching handicap gate in between. Tandem cabinet allows back-to-back mounting of two turnstiles in one enclosure. Photo (above right) shows combination of stainless steel and granite clad construction. Other popular combinations are brass or bronze with granite. In lieu of granite, some facilities choose Corian, which can easily match most decors .

"THE FIRST OPTICAL TURNSTILE AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE AND FABRICATED BY A TURNSTILE MANUFACTURER"

OPERATION

  • The AVL Model TOT-20E Optical Turnstile is designed for high volume, low to moderate security applications where aesthetics, finishes and throughput are integral along with low maintenance, ease of use and reliability.
  • The interaction of the sensors, lane status lights, graphical display, audible indicators and alarms is controlled by a Programmable Logic Controller.
  • Turnstile are released via a normally open, dry contact closure from a card reader, push button, biometric reader or other control device.
  • Lane configuration can be any combination of controlled entry or controlled exit, free-entry, or free-exit, no entry or no exit.
  • Lane width can be configured for ADA compliance to allow handicap use.
  • Sensor array restricts passage to one authorized user at a time. Any invalid pass through will initiate an alarm.
  • Internal or remote lane status and control panels are available to monitor and change each individual lanes current condition

CONSTRUCTION

  • The standard cabinet is fabricated from 16 ga. stainless steel polished to a #4 satin finish. The standard top cover is either stainless steel or 1" thick corian. An optional marble or granite cover is available.
  • Other available cabinet materials include brass, muntz (bronze), powder coated carbon steel and a plastic laminate.
  • A lockable access door allows a simple installation and wiring of electrical harness.
  • All internal electric components are pre-wired to the PLC. A 24 VDC power supply is included to operate sensors, lights, PLC, graphical display and audio indicators.
  • Lane cabinet sizes can be adjusted according to specific customer needs and site locations.
